About the Project
The INDY project is one of the first European projects under the European Defence Fund (EDF) programme addressing the greening of the European defence sector. The project tackles dependence on fossil fuels and lays the foundations for the development of energy-efficient and energy-self-sufficient deployable military bases across four different climatic scenarios, with the objective of reducing fossil fuel use by 40% by 2030 and achieving full decarbonisation by 2050.
Project Results
- Definition of functional requirements for the establishment of energy-efficient deployable military camps by 2030 and 2050.
- Development of four distinct climatic scenarios (tropical, polar, continental, and temperate) for deployable military camps of different sizes.
- Analysis of technical, economic, and tactical aspects of new energy technologies, including hydrogen-based solutions.
- Risk-reduction testing of key technologies and validation of their reliability under operational conditions.
- Development of energy architecture concepts for different types of deployable military camps.
