About the Project
The RDI project MODEL+ focuses on the development and demonstration of an energy-efficient, self-sufficient, next-generation modular building. The integrated solution combines innovative technologies for the generation, storage, and management of electrical and thermal energy sources, supported by a digital twin that enables smart monitoring and control.
The outcome is a fully functional demonstrator – an autonomous modular building capable of at least eight hours of independent operation, achieving an annual reduction of 21.2 tonnes of CO₂ emissions.
The demonstrated solution is designed for dual-use applications, serving both civil protection and disaster relief needs, as well as defence purposes.
Project Results
The project develops an energy-efficient, self-sufficient, next-generation modular building that includes:
- An innovative modular construction system, designed for rapid deployment, scalability, and adaptability for various dual-use applications.
- A smart heating and cooling system with AI-based control, providing optimal thermal comfort, high energy efficiency, and autonomous operation.
- A modular thermal and energy unit (MTTE), integrating a heat pump, thermal storage, and domestic hot water system for efficient energy management.
- A high-voltage electrical battery storage unit, ensuring a stable and reliable power supply while balancing production and consumption.
