NOMAD, Novel energy storage technologies usable at Military Deployments in forward operating bases

  • Duration of the project 1. 2. 2022 – 31. 1. 2027
  • Total value of the project 20,717,428.21 €
  • Funding body/programme European Defence Fund (EDF-2021)
  • TECES role: Project Partner
About the Project

NOMAD is an ambitious project addressing the strategic need to enhance the competitiveness and autonomy of the European defence industry in energy storage, while reinforcing the role of R&D centres.

The project tackles challenges of interoperability, common methodologies and the producibility of advanced solutions. Its added value lies in establishing a cross-border collaborative framework between industry, research organisations and stakeholders and enabling the development and validation of innovative energy storage technologies in real environments, with benefits extending to the civil sector.

Project Results

The NOMAD project will deliver an innovative, modular, and mobile system for versatile energy storage and management within tactical or mobile microgrids.

The system will integrate support functions for operation in diverse climates (including microclimate control, security, power conversion) and a robust Energy Management System (EMS) for advanced control, monitoring and coordination of modules.

Key results include rapid response capabilities such as frequency modulation, reactive power support, stable transmission and improved power quality, with millisecond-level responsiveness ensuring high reliability and operational effectiveness.
