About the Project
The SENTINEL project addresses the urgent need to transition deployable military camps away from fossil fuels toward sustainable, self-sufficient, and resilient energy systems. It introduces innovative energy capabilities designed to increase tactical autonomy, reduce logistical burden, and ensure operational continuity in harsh and variable conditions.
The project supports EU defence energy transition goals and strengthens Europe’s strategic autonomy through interoperable, field-proven solutions.
An essential aspect of the SENTINEL project is the collaboration of partners from 16 countries aimed at developing, integrating, and testing interoperable energy technologies that enable technically and operationally coordinated functioning of systems from different nations in joint operations.
The project supports the EU’s defence energy transition goals and strengthens Europe’s strategic autonomy through modular, interoperable, and field-proven solutions.
Project Results
Within the project, 17 Key Energy Capabilities will be developed and tested in cooperation with the armed forces, including advanced energy technologies, enhanced mobility, digital energy solutions, and smart-grid integration.
Four demonstrations will be carried out in existing military bases of different sizes across EU member states, and the fifth demonstration will gather all parameters in a digital demonstration/simulation.
All capabilities will be tested in realistic military scenarios under diverse climatic conditions (arctic, tropical, desert, and continental), enabling the validation of their effectiveness, interoperability, and robustness in the field.
